About AlphaLens

We index products, not just companies.

AlphaLens was founded by two repeat entrepreneurs who had seen the same private-market problem from opposite sides: the investor’s workflow was drowning in manual research, while the data layer still described companies too shallowly.

Why we exist

Unburden the deal team. Empower the decision.

The best deal teams are buried under process: sorting inbound, enriching targets, copying fields between systems, and chasing answers across the web. Those jobs matter, but they are not the work that wins deals.

AlphaLens exists to remove that weight. We make the unstructured searchable, turn product reality into a first-class data layer, and route trusted intelligence into the workflows where investors already make decisions.

The company began as Deckmatch, focused on extracting structured intelligence from pitch decks. AlphaLens extends that foundation into a broader product-level intelligence platform for sourcing, enrichment, screening, and CRM delivery.

The thesis

Private markets need product-level intelligence.

Products compete, not just companies.

Most private-market tools stop at company profiles. AlphaLens indexes the product layer: what each company builds, sells, ships, and says it does.

The 15-tab research dance should die.

Deal teams should not bounce between decks, websites, CRMs, spreadsheets, and search tabs just to decide whether a company deserves attention.

Trust comes from evidence.

Every workflow is designed around structured outputs, source citations, confidence, and clean routing into the systems teams already use.

Founding team

Market intuition meets mathematical depth.

Leo came from private-markets fundraising and investor workflows. Walid came from optimization, machine learning, and data infrastructure. AlphaLens is the product of both frustrations.

Léopold Gasteen

Leo brings the investor, fundraising, and private-markets muscle. Before AlphaLens, he founded Edgefolio, a fintech platform built to remove friction from fund managers and allocators.

  • Founded Edgefolio in 2013 after starting his career around hedge-fund investor relations at Sector Asset Management.
  • Studied mechanical engineering at the University of Edinburgh, international relations at King’s College London, and mathematics and EU economic policy at LSE.
  • Native in French and English, professionally fluent in Spanish and Catalan. Father of two rowdy vikings, usually found between Oslo, Palo Alto, and a tennis court.

Co-founder & CTO

Walid Fayez Mustapha, PhD

Walid is the technical force behind AlphaLens: a data-science leader working across mathematical optimization, machine learning, LLMs, and large-scale product indexing.

  • Co-founded Homefair in 2019, led the technical buildout, and exited to Marketer before serving as VP of Data Science.
  • Holds a PhD from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, with research rooted in mathematical programming and modeling.
  • Architected the product-level index and agentic enrichment pipeline. Father of two young kids and a keen fisherman when the systems finally stop running.

Backed by customers

Built with people who already felt the pain.

In 2024, the company raised an oversubscribed $3.1M seed round from investors who were also close to the problem: Alliance VC, Luminar Ventures, First Degree Capital, and Skyfall Ventures. The capital supports US expansion from Palo Alto and continued development of AlphaLens as the product-level search and enrichment layer for private markets.
